Annabella Album (2006)

Libby Johnson

Wrong Records

Critically acclaimed New York singer/songwriter Libby Johnson has decided to get back to the basics with her solo debut album, Annabella, on Wrong Records. Touring the world as a founding member of 22 Brides (Zero Hour/Universal) has given Libby the experience and music industry know-how to release a record on her own. Annabella's incredibly memorable songs have a soulful, bluesy, yet rock-based feel that will stay with you after just one listen and grow on you each and every time.

Libby is the featured artist, in the upcoming Fox Searchlight film Trust The Man, starring David Duchovny, Julianne Moore, Billy Crudup, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Songs from Annabella are prominently featured in the movie. The release of Annabella will coincide with the release of the film, slated for September 2006.

Review of Annabella

Libby Johnson's solo effort, Annabella is a menagerie of sound and melodic harmony.  Close your eyes and picture yourself walking into a New York City bar in the late 1960s/ early while a little known folksy-contemporary singer named Carol King was playing -- this is what you can visualize when you hear this album.  Although some songs are more upbeat than others, they all come back to that basic grass roots folky sound.  The album has some highlights, beginning with the first tow songs, "Don't Mean You Lost Your Love" and the title song "Annabella," but it is followed through with a less than cosmic "Bombs Away."

I happen to personally enjoy the song "Rain."  The words, the music, the feeling, it all just comes together perfectly for me.  Although not the perfect album, it is her first solo try, but not a bad try.  She can only get better, and I look forward to listening to her albums for years to come.
